Sarah Bennett-Baggs Snetterton Report

The latest race report from Sarah Bennett-Baggs and the Adrian Flux sponsored E46 M3.

Last weekend was the penultimate round of the Britcar GTN Championship, where SBB and teammate Jensen Lunn were hoping to put the mechanical problems of Castle Combe behind them. With that in mind they arrived in Norfolk on Friday to give the car a thorough shake-down and by Saturday’s qualifying session, the car was running well, although both drivers reported it to be down on power compared to normal. The car qualified 5th in class, to start 19th out of 33.

With the Championship still in the balance, it was essential to Sarah and Jensen to score good points if they were going to put pressure on Simon Phillips and Chris Randall, eight points clear in their Lotus Elise.

At 12.25 on Sunday, the two hour race began, but Sarah’s first session was disrupted by several safety car incidents which prevented her from making up ground, but by the time she pitted to hand over to Jensen, she had maintained position and the competitors in her class were still in sight. Jensen put in a flawless performance and made up a large number of places to bring the car home 12th overall and fifth in their class.

Sarah says “I think both Jensen and I are both a little disappointed, we have both been driving our socks off this weekend, but for some unknown reason we were not as competitive as we normally are, either we have lost some power or everyone else in our class has stepped up their game, I don’t think either of us could have done anything more – it was a faultless drive, we have both been pushing hard all weekend and both stayed out of trouble and on the track. What more can I say, its a shame we couldn’t do any more.”

Pistonheads Show & Autosport International 2010

Jenson Button's Brawn F1 Car

The 2010 Autosport International opens to punters on Saturday and Sunday, but we’re already here setting up, and today and tomorrow are trade and press days. You may have seen the TV ads, but if you were thinking of coming, then I can promise you the show is an excellent day out for any petrolhead.

As well as Jenson’s Brawn, above, and appearances from many legends of racing, past and present, including the aforementioned Mr Button, and our mate Sterling Moss, there are plenty of amazing Cars. Today I’m sharing a couple of cars from the more motorsport oriented AutoSport part of the show, and tomorrow I plan to give you my pick of the roadgoing performance cars from the Pistonheads area.

F1 is well represented, of course, and you can see all the 2009 F1 cars, but also some amazing car of the past, such as Mansell’s Williams and the Benetton above, which was Schumacher’s, of course, both reminding me of long Sundays watching F1 in the pub, and better times for Renault’s racing division. There is also plenty of the awesome John Player Special livery in evidence.

Peugeot 908 HDi

Other racing disciplines and Formulae are also covered in staggering depth, with highlights like the Historic rally cars, including the same awesome T-16 we saw at the French Car Show. Another French Car at the show is the current Le Mans 24 Hour champion, the Peugeot 908 HDi, which really does look stunning, and my photo does it no justice.

Finally, a mystery picture. This is part of a car at the show. Any idea which one? I will reveal all tomorrow…

Sarah Bennett-Baggs a win.

sarah baggs a first in class

You may remember that we sponsor Sarah Bennett-Baggs, who last year drove a BMW in the Britcar series.

Well this year she’s driving in the Porsche Club Championship, in a 1978 Porsche 911 SC. The first race was Easter Monday at Donington Park, and congratulations are due to Sarah, who finished her first two races with a class win and a third in class finishes. A great achievement – and Sarah is the first woman to win in the history of the Porsche Club Championship.

Sarah has really pushed the boat out this season – as you can see, she’s had an outfit made to co-ordinate with the Flux Babes,

And has even decorated the side of her bright pink Porsche with the URL of this blog.

What’s more Sarah is convinced she can improve in races to come, saying “I am really looking forward to the rest of the season as I am still getting used to racing 30 year old technology!”

Best of luck Sarah. She’ll be at Oulton Park this weekend, and starts as class leader, so I’m sure she’d appreciate any support if you’re in the area.
