Rover produced a car in 1904 and remained an independent concern with post war models such as the P4, P5 and Rover P6, until being bought in 1967 by Leyland Motor Corporation (owners of Standard Triumph) and subsequently absorbed the very next year into British Leyland when LMC itself merged with British Motor Holdings, which by then owned the BMC brands (Austin, Morris, MG, Wolseley, Riley & Vanded Plas) and Jaguar. The Rover brand became dominant in the 80s, achieving success via collaboration with Honda whilst owned by British Aerospace. Bought by BMW, and then sold to the management as MG Rover before imploding with assets passing to Chinese companies SAIC & Nanjing and the brand bought by Ford who have now sold it on to Tata as part of the Land Rover sale.
