Car thieves have stolen a unique and much loved customised Ford Capri from Salford in Greater Manchester.
Gutted owner Sam Datta-Paulin, 31, fears his pride and joy may have been stolen to order and could be on its away abroad or in a workshop being stripped of its parts.
The 1981 model, registration number NPJ55W, has been totally rebuilt during the past 10 years and it is a one off, instantly recognisable.
It is black with white stripes across the bonnet, roof and boot lid, and has 15 inch five-spoke wheels and a set of new Uniroyal tyres which had only been fitted three days before it was stolen.
“You would hear my customised Ford Capri a mile off”
Sam said: “It has a big bore exhaust, no badges on the back, yellow Recaro front seats and yellow GL back seats.
“It has a 2.9 Cosworth engine under the bonnet – you will hear it a mile off.”
He added: “The car was spotted in Ormskirk, so it is likely it is somewhere round the Southport area if it’s not yet in a shipping container.”
Work on customised Ford Capri was a “labour of love”
The car was a ten-year restoration project which Same considered a “labour of love”.
He said: “I’m absolutely gutted. It was well known locally and had previously been shown at several classic car shows around the United Kingdom.
“It has huge sentimental value for me as my parents bought it for me for my 21st birthday.
“My dad, Andy, passed away six years ago and one of the last memories I have of him is helping me to lift out the old engine.
“Nearly every part of the car, which was two-litre made in 1981 when it left the factory, has been replaced.”
