Tesla have revealed the first look at their new ‘affordable’ electric car by CEO Elon Musk on Twitter.
The Tesla Model 3, which can travel 215 miles in a single charge, is available for buyers to put a refundable deposit on. The fortunate first 30 owners of the revolutionary vehicle will be able to pick up their cars on July 28 at a launch party, but other prospective buyers will have to wait until the end of 2018 before receiving their car.
Billionaire Musk tweeted pictures of the Model 3, which is valued at $35,000 – £27,000 and can go from 0 to 60mph in less than six seconds.
Musk teased his ten million followers with a tweet before posting the pictures. He tweeted: “Production unit 1 of Model 3 is now built and going through final checkout. Pics soon.”
Tesla will start slow with their production of the Model 3 with 100 cars in August and 1,500 for September, but by the end of December they hope to be producing 20,000 per month, Musk also revealed on the social media site.

They will certainly have their work cut out for them as that equates to 5,000 per week for the rest of 2017 and doubling their efforts to 10,000 per week in 2018.
Manufacturers Tesla only produced 84,000 cars last year, so their new ‘affordable’ vehicle will see the California based company having to raise their production levels significantly, if they are to reach their targets.
The five-seat sedan will have a computer monitor instead of a traditional dashboard which will detail the driver on the route they’re taking, the speed and other essential nuggets of information and will be controlled via touchscreen.
Price-wise the Model 3 will be significantly cheaper than their previous designs such as the Model S and the Model X. They have not disclosed how many customers have placed a £1,000 refundable deposit, but the announcement should improve the company’s stock.
Shares fell 14 per cent when they announced the deliveries of the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV “were at the low-end of the company’s projections in the first half of this year” report the Daily Mail.
