Well the dream can now become a reality with the opening of the Lotus Driving Academy at the motor manufacturer’s two mile testing track at Hethel in Norfolk.
From as little as £119 novices can get to test their mettle in the very latest Lotus’s while getting expert tuition, guidance and advice.
For the more experienced the Lotus intensive “Gold” course at £899 will get you up to speed for full throttle track racing.
Lotus Driving Academy promises “pure” driving experience

The new Lotus Driving Academy uses a fleet of the latest Exige Sport 350 and Elise Sport 220 sports cars, with left hand drive available for visitors from outside the UK.
The Lotus Driving Academy packages include the “Scare Yourself Sensible” experience, which is £119 while the Bronze, Silver and Gold licence days build up to obtaining the coveted Lotus Licence.
Lotus Driving Academy “challenging” for experienced drivers
These cars challenge even the most ardent track day enthusiast, with more driving time learning skills such as power oversteer and heel and toe, a personal evaluation, the option of onboard video footage and exclusive merchandise as a reminder of the day.
All Licence participants receive a behind-the-scenes look at the Lotus factory, as well as a tour of the Classic Team Lotus facility where they will see some of the cars from Lotus’ prestigious Formula 1 history, before rounding the experience off with a high-speed, on-the-limit “demonstration lap” with one of the instructors.
Guests of those taking part can also experience the tours and demonstration lap at an extra charge.
