The Beast from the East is bringing a very inclement airstream carrying snow and icy conditions – but here’s an Airstream you will love and it is coming up for auction very soon.
The 19-foot 1954 model is easily recognised because of the distinctive shape of the rounded and polished aluminum coachwork.
The unique body shape dates back to the 1930s. The iconic caravans are adored by “Airstreamers” a group who share a community spirit because of their common love of the trailers.
Airstream caravans enjoy a cult following
In the early 1950s, Airstream company founder Wally Byam began leading groups of owners on tours around the world.
Photos taken of the trailers in front of many famous tourist sites were common. This promoted a mystique which surrounded Airstreams and persists to this day.
Having purchased the caravan as a restoration project, the current owner set about removing the body and repairing the chassis, together with overhauling the brakes.
The interior was completely stripped, repaired, insulated and reassembled.
Recon Airstream has an authentic 50s feel
A refurbished Paul Metalcraft kitchen was fitted together with a Husky fridge, electric water pump, hot water and walnut worktops all resulting in an authentic 50’s feel.
A double bed is fitted which can be enclosed if required. At the other end a new toilet and shower/wet room was fitted.
The Airstream is being sold by Historics at Brooklands at Ascot on Saturday (March 3) and the pre-auction estimate is £46,000 to £52,000.
