The badge said Triumph but the Acclaim was a Honda Ballade underneath and the first car from the BL-Honda tie-up that kept the British car industry on life support for a while. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, who also penned Maseratis and defined BMW\u2019s look to this day, this car and aesthetic could have inspired future Triumphs the way William Lyons\u2019 Jaguar XJ of \u201968 set that brand\u2019s tone for 40 years.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26952\" title=\"*tri2000_17\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17-300x179.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17-278x165.jpeg 278w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17-526x313.jpeg 526w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2012\/05\/tri2000_17-572x341.jpeg 572w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em>Triumph Herald<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nAnother Triumph whose shape is instantly recognizable, even if the vast majority have long since rusted away. Try to see that familiar shape with fresh eyes though: it\u2019s also the work of Michelotti and spawned five body variants and three sports cars, presaging today\u2019s niche-crazy car market by half
