{"id":35063,"date":"2014-03-04T13:37:41","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T13:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.influx.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=35063"},"modified":"2022-06-22T12:37:31","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T11:37:31","slug":"chaparral-2f","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/blog\/chaparral-2f\/","title":{"rendered":"Chaparral 2F"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>We take our racing cars scary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s exactly what the Chaparral 2F is.<\/p>\n<p>The brainchild of Jim Hall \u2013 a Texan oilman and technical savant \u2013 the Chaparral motor racing company toward the end of the 1960s and 1970s produced a fleet of these brutal racing cars.<\/p>\n<p>Most famous was the tarmac-sucking groundforce flirting 2J. <a title=\"High on the Chaparral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/blog\/high-on-the-chaparral\/\">You can read about that here.<\/a> But for some reason we had never noticed the big square-rumped, big winged 2F.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35065\" alt=\"chaparral_2f_2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-624x468.jpg 624w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-278x208.jpg 278w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-526x394.jpg 526w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-592x444.jpg 592w, https:\/\/cdn-influx-wp.adrianflux.co.uk\/uploads\/2014\/03\/chaparral_2f_2-572x429.jpg 572w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>In the 2F, Hall applied the aerodynamic advances of the aluminum 2E to the older fiberglass chassis closed-cockpit 2D for the 1967 racing season.<\/p>\n<p>A movable wing mounted on struts loaded the rear suspension while an air dam kept the front end planted.<\/p>\n<p>The radiators were according to the webs, moved to positions next to the cockpit. An aluminium-blocked 7 litre engine replaced the 5.3 of the 2D.<\/p>\n<p>The behemoth 2F scored its only win on 30 July 1967 in the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch with Phil Hill and Mike Spence driving.
