{"id":42575,"date":"2015-10-26T15:44:54","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T15:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.influx.co.uk\/?p=42575"},"modified":"2024-11-14T14:33:51","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T14:33:51","slug":"renault-turbo-2-pop-goes-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/blog\/renault-turbo-2-pop-goes-classic\/","title":{"rendered":"Renault Turbo 2: Pop Goes Classic."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>For those of us that were contemplating our O Levels in the mid 80s, the news that a 1984 Renault 5 can be auctioned as a classic car can bring on a nauseating rush of existential angst.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I guess, along with the coppers, that when the cars at the NEC Classic Motor Show sale start to look young then you have to accept the inevitable. And in the youthfulness stakes this example belies even its registration papers. In the thirty one years it has been on the planet \u2013 thirty of those here in the UK &#8211; it has only covered fifty five thousand miles.<\/p>\n<p>This is of course no ordinary Renault 5 \u2013 which explains it being allowed a fifteen year beauty sleep- it is in fact the Turbo 2. They were the second generation of homologations that qualified the 5 Maxi Turbo model for the World Rally Series.<\/p>\n<p>Presented in its factory original paintjob and having recently had a \u00a310k mechanical makeover, this one &#8211; of only fifty or so reckoned to be on British Streets &#8211; is estimated to fetch upward of fifty grand when the hammer comes down at the auction in mid-November.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re the lucky new owner you\u2019ll probably put in a plastic bag and send it into hibernation again until 2030 when it\u2019ll no doubt have doubled in value.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But before you do that why not take it out for a ride. \u00a0Slam a copy of \u2018Now That\u2019s What I Call Music 1984\u2019 into the cassette deck and cruise around your local town, shedding a sentimental tear to Sade\u2019s \u2018Your Love is King\u2019 and \u2018I Should\u2019ve Known Better\u2019 by the late, great Jim Diamond.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/turbo-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/turbo-2-300x207.png\" alt=\"turbo 2\" \/> \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Images courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iconicauctioneers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silverstone Auctions<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; For those of us that were contemplating our O Levels in the mid 80s, the news that a 1984 Renault 5 can be auctioned as a classic car can bring on a nauseating rush of existential angst.
