A couple of fistfuls of original Ford Escort Mexicos, with Formula One bosses at the helm; men like John Surtees, Jack Brabham, Max Mosley and Colin Chapman ragging the bejeesus out of the cars in a winner-take-all challenge at an English race track.<\/p>\n<p>The year is 1971. The location is Brands Hatch. Not sure who had the genius idea of pitting F1&#8217;s supremos head-to-head in Ford&#8217;s talismanic everyman racer. You can <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theroaringseason.com\/showthread.php?297-Jack-Brabham-Trophy-Race-October-24th-1971-Brands-Hatch\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">read a detailed report from the time here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a load of other info.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we just wanted an excuse to shar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> couple of pictures of our favourite car from the period<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with you<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in rallying in the late 1960s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">early 1970s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strange to think that only around 10,000 Mk1 Ford Escort Mexicos were built.
