For those of you that don\u2019t know, Anthony \u201cDutch\u201d van Someren explains.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Danni Bagnall: What do you guys do over at the bike shed?<\/p>\n<p>Anthony \u201cDutch\u201d van Someren: Started in November 2011 as a blog, The Bike Shed Motorcycle Club has gradually grown into a cafe\/bar\/restaurant\/shop\/gallery\/barbershop\/event space \u2013 a jack-of-all trades, then?! \u2013 under four\u00a0refurbished railway arches, in the heart of Shoreditch, Central London. It\u2019s like we\u2019re hidden in plain sight under the main railways bridge on the\u00a0junction\u00a0of Old Street (384). We are a\u00a0motorcycle club you can join, with 600\u00a0members but (with\u00a0two-fingers raised to exclusive London clubs) you\u00a0don\u2019t have to be a member to come to the club, oh and you also\u00a0don\u2019t have to ride a\u00a0motorcycle\u2026 We welcome all visitors of all walks of life, and funnily enough half our\u00a0customers are not even bikers. The\u00a0100-seat caf\u00e9 and restaurant is even rated on Trip\u00a0Advisor in the top 4% of all London\u00a0restaurants \u2013 an achievement we\u2019re massively proud of. We also run our website and\u00a0annual event business\u00a0from the BSMC, and\u00a0this May have over 13,000\u00a0visitors to our show in\u00a0Tobacco Dock. We\u2019ve even got bike parking on a private street available for up to 60 bikes.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING3-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING3-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bike Shed 1\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>DB: What\u2019s the bike scene like in the London area?<\/p>\n<p>AvS: Being in the City, you come across all kinds of different people. We\u2019re targeted to the new-wave of custom-bike builders, but we welcome anyone; people that ride, people that don\u2019t ride, sport-bike riders. Literally anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The new-wave cafe racer London bike scene is so vibrant at the moment, though. It\u2019s fresh, young, inclusive and it\u2019s growing at a massive rate \u2013 something that is very exciting to be a part of.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING3.jpg\" alt=\"Bike Shed crowd\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>DB: How\u2019s the bike scene changed in your opinion since you guys started out?<\/p>\n<p>AvS: When I first started out, I began lightly modifying bikes at the start of an emerging zeitgeist that emphasised the importance of making machines that were individual, in the style of flat trackers, scramblers, and bobbers, and the bike scene seems to have just run with that, meaning it\u2019s bigger and better than ever. I\u2019d say it has been in the last decade where we\u2019ve seen the biggest transformation. The bike scene has gone from being a clich\u00e9d\u00a0pastime of men having a midlife crisis to being a lifestyle adventure\u00a0pastime for individuals who appreciate real experience over virtual living.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adrianflux.co.uk\/influx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/TBS-TOM-BING4.jpg\" alt=\"Bike Shed dock\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>DB: How did your recent event go at Tobacco Docks?<\/p>\n<p>AvS: We had an overwhelming turnout. The sun was shining and people were well and truly out. We had a turnout of more than 13,000 people, which is just incredible. All of which came to see the 219 curated\u00a0custom motorcycles we had on display over the three-day exhibition event, alongside the best retail brands,\u00a0photography, live art, live music (across\u00a0several stages), live screen-printing and helmet\u00a0pin-striping, plus street food, multiple bars,\u00a0whisky lounges, barbershop, and tattoo lounge. We received fantastic support from a number of the main\u00a0motorcycle manufacturers and apparel\u00a0brands, too.
