March sees the return of some of the biggest motorsports in the UK and further afield, with plenty of new seasons starting this month.

And as the world’s best drivers get ready to shift into a higher gear, we break down the biggest events happening in 2022.

Formula 1 – March 20 – November 20

Final testing starts this month ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix on the 18, as 20 drivers get set to test their skill across 22 race weekends and five continents in the biggest motorsport in the world.

British driver Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to regain his Drivers World Championship from rival Max Verstappen after the controversial end to last season. Meanwhile, it could be a big year for some of the mid-table constructors to score more points than ever before due to new regulations which the FIA hope will level the playing field.

MotoGP – March 6 – November 6

MotoGP this year will see 12 teams from six manufacturers battle it out as 24 riders pilot these incredibly fast bikes.

All eyes will be on Fabio Quartararo to see if he can retain his title, despite the rocky start to his title defence. Across the 24 riders, seven nations and four continents are represented. The 2022 calendar sees the MotoGP circus travel the globe to 17 countries and five continents.

World Superbikes – February 9 – November 13

The 2022 FIM Superbike World Championship grid is starting to take shape, with new rookies joining the grid next year and changes at three of the factory teams, including an all-rookie line-up at Team HRC. The announcements are putting the motions in place for the 2022 season to be another thrilling encounter.

Britcar Endurance Championship – March 12 – October 22

world of motorsport

The Britcar organisation will run the newly Motorsport-UK-sanctioned British Endurance Championship in 2022. This championship, designed for GTs, touring cars and sportscars, will take in some of the UK’s most breathtaking circuits, with the action starting at the iconic Silverstone circuit on March 12.

There are five races provisionally scheduled for 120-minute durations, along with the three hour drive at Snetterton.

One of the teams to look out for this season is Team BRIT, who are looking to build on their multiple podium finishes and an overall finish of third in the standings last year thanks to talented drivers Aaron Morgan and Bobby Trundley.

British GT Championship – April 18 – October 16

Team BRIT will also be involved in this year’s British GT Championship, where they will be entering their beautiful McLaren 570S GT4. Barwell Motorsport ran away with the Drivers’ and Teams’ championship last year and will be hoping to make it back-to-back dual titles in 2022.

The nine race calendar will include all of the iconic British circuits you’d expect such as Oulton Park and Brands Hatch and Donnington Park, with the former hosting the two-hour sprint races during the Easter bank holiday.
