Insurance relief for drivers in the last chance saloon

Motorists within three points of a driving ban are no longer facing exorbitant insurance costs, thanks to a new scheme from specialist broker Adrian Flux.
Many insurers heavily penalise drivers with nine penalty points on their licence, just three points away from a totting up ban, because they are assumed to present a greater accident risk.
But Gerry Bucke, general manager at Flux, the UK’s largest specialist broker, said: “The assumption isn’t so easily borne out by the statistics. We’ve found that those with nine points on their licence are often more likely to drive carefully than those with fewer points.
“They know they’re walking a tightrope and one slip could mean a driving ban and all the inconvenience that entails, sometimes even putting people’s employment at risk.
“And with the proliferation of speed cameras these days, people know they have to take even more care than in the past.
“You’d probably see some horrendous quotes if you put your nine points into a comparison website, so where your circumstances are outside the standard criteria you may be better off using a specialist broker.”
An estimated one million motorists in the UK at any one time are only three points away from potentially losing their licence.
