Concours of Elegance 2016

Amazing lineup announced for one of the world's great automotive gatherings: Concours of Elegance 2016

The Concours of Elegance event has just announced its fifth edition.

Including a select list of sixty of the greatest cars on the planet this year’s event, which will be held at Windsor Castle in September, is set to be bigger and more accessible than ever.

The short list of sixty cars selected for the central event of the weekend include some gobsmackingly rare and priceless objects of 20th-century mechanical art.

From early Benz motorised carriages from the end of the 19th century, through to a 2016 Alfa Romeo Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Spyder (below), over a hundred years of automotive creativity is celebrated and displayed on the lawns of the Queen’s personal pile.

These sixty cars make up the ‘Main Concours’ event, held in Windsor’s exclusive Quadrangle. The event will also bring up to a thousand of the world’s most collectible cars to Windsor Castle in a celebration of the 90th birthday of the woman in charge.

Highlights of the Main Concours include a 1900 Daimler 6hp owned by the Monarch herself, as well as a one-off 1938 Hispano Suiza Dubonnet Xenia (below) and a stunning Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Series I Cabriolet.

Some of the more recent cars
in the Main Concours are a 1966 Radford Mini de Ville GT previously owned by George Harrison as well as the only factory-built Ferrari Testarossa Spider

Zagato fans are well served this year as there’ll be the chance to see in the flesh a super rare, bitingly beautiful Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato (below) – as well as the more recent Aston V12 Z.

Special Features of this year’s Concours of Elegance include a display of remaining cars from the very first British Grand Prix, held in the year of the Queen’s birth, 1926.

A free-to-view section of the Concours of Elegance will see hundreds of cars from the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Bentley and more line Windsor Castle’s famous Long Walk.

Some of the UK’s most respected car clubs will be displaying the best models they have to offer, including a standout display from the Aston Martin Owners’ Club, which will showcase one of every single model ever produced by the firm.

And if you’re into Ferraris, you’ll be excited to see the famous Stirling Moss 250 SWB, as well as Graham Hill’s white 250 GTO.

The Concours of Elegance is a charity fundraising event
, and has already donated more than £800,000 to charity, and aims to break through the £1million barrier in 2016. This year the Concours is raising funds for The Queen’s Choral Foundation, The Household Cavalry Foundation and Springfield Youth Club Hackney.

If you’re into the high-water mark of 20th-century art – this is an event that should not be missed.

We wonder how long it will be before a Ford Escort Mexico makes it onto the quad?
