Hadleigh Breakdown, the breakdown arm of Adrian Flux is reporting almost a 100% increase in arranging breakdown assistance for customers stranded with their vehicles in the adverse weather conditions.

The most common faults motorists are reporting in the cold weather include:-

  • Difficulties with starting the vehicle most likely to be caused by a flat battery
  • The vehicle cutting out while being driven
  • Punctures and problems with tyres

Ronan Hart, General Manager at Hadleigh Breakdown, said: “Our advisors have been working flat out to help drivers in need of road side assistance during these freezing conditions today.

“The most common faults being reported relates to difficulties with starting a vehicle, this is most likely to be caused by a flat battery in this cold weather.

“Meanwhile, we’ve been providing roadside assistance and helping drivers with tyre or brake problems – and we’ve also had a high volume of calls where customers have slid into ditches because of ice or snow.”

He added: “Our breakdown hotline will remain open 24/7 for our breakdown customers who need any assistance during these freezing weather conditions.”

Hadleigh Breakdown handles requests for breakdown assistance for Adrian Flux customers and on Wednesday alone handled 100 breakdowns – almost double the average number of daily requests received since the start of the year. Similar figures so far are being reported for the rest of the week.

Advisors assisted an average of 53 breakdowns per day in January and 52 breakdowns per day in February before the cold snap arrived. The last three days have averaged 80 breakdowns per day as the ‘Beast from the East’ sweeps the UK.

Meanwhile, the Adrian Flux claims line has reported a reduction in the number of calls to its claims hotline. Yesterday (Wednesday) there were 30% less claims going to the claims hotline than usual, and 20% less today (Thursday).

This has been put down to drivers preferring not to drive in these conditions.

There have, however, been reports today of more single vehicle accidents than usual to the hotlines.
