Comedian and actor Brian Conley joins hosts Jason Plato and Dave Vitty on the award-winning podcast Fuelling Around to discuss his career and leaving EastEnders.

Conley has been a mainstay on UK television screens for over three decades, having hosted his own comedy shows, as well as appearing on The Royal Variety Performance a record eight times.

The 62-year-old sat down with Plato and Vitty to discuss what life is really like on the set of the iconic BBC One soap and how he felt about leaving.

Brian Conley discusses the cars used on EastEnders

Conley revealed how amazed he was with the refurbished set created for the iconic Albert Square programme, and how impressed he was that it includes electric car charging points.

“About two years ago they completed the new set, it took them eight years, but they rebuilt a complete set,” Conley explained.

“The original one has now been knocked down, and the new Square is a quarter of a mile away. When they rebuilt it they put in electric points for cars, but it’s all real.

“It’s wide enough now because that was an issue that they did struggle with getting two cars around the Square, or once the other cars were parked up, so they made it bigger.

“It’s iconic when you’re there, of course I was there two and a half years, but even right at the end you’re saying ‘God I’m here with Kathy Beale and Phil Mitchell in The Vic’ and I ended up marrying Kathy Beale.

“It’s like a rollercoaster ride, you’re always fighting against the clock, you’re four episodes a week, every week, that is a lot of content.”
