If you have Money, Money, Money to spare check out this 40 year-old Beamer – a BMW 633 CSi – once owned by Björn Ulvaeus of Swedish pop sensation ABBA.
You can almost hear the Beamer singing Take a Chance on Me as it comes up for auction in Paris on February 7.
If you have fallen Head Over Heels and you are thinking Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! you’ll be pleased to know it is valued at €25,000-€35,000 though there is no reserve.
A bidding frenzy is expected but, of course, when it comes to auctions, The Winner Takes it All.
Lovers of classic old BMW’s or die hard ABBA fans may regard that as something of a snip.
ABBA’s Beamer “iconic” Series One `Coupé
According to RM Sotheby’s sale notes the Abba Beamer is “a rare example of the iconic Series One coupé”.
It is immaculately preserved with supporting archive material offering provenance of its ownership by Ulvaeus and use by other members of ABBA.
The silver BMW 633, silver over black leather with a four-speed manual gearbox, was ordered by Polar Music, the band’s record company when the band were at the height of their fame in 1977.
Fast and reliable, the car followed the band on European tours to be on standby for use by Ulvaeus or Benny Andersson.
Beamer bought at height of ABBA popularity
At the time of purchase ABBA’s latest album had so many pre-orders that pressing plants could not meet demand, and their shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall received 3.5 million ticket requests.
After a period abroad, the car returned to Sweden in 2008.
The bodywork and interior are unmarked, and the car retains its rare factory fitted TRX alloy wheels.
Accompanied with the car are the original purchase and ownership documents signed by Ulvaeus.
