Pontiac GTO

Cars

We’ve said before how there’s something strangely un-American about the designation GTO. And the fact that the Gran Turismo Omologato tag has been given to such a broad spectrum of cars of all shapes, designs and profiles is testament to its power.

Never was the strange anachronism more apparent than in this early seventies campaign that seeks to explain the GTO moniker: “a device for shrinking time and distance”

When I think of such a tag, I imagine a sleek, low profile bit of hi-tech automotive wizardry: rather than a geometric clab of Detroit muscle.

Just shows you that America and the rest of Anglophone world is a single nation separated by the same language, I suppose.

Still, the campaign in themselves remain a telling and beautiful piece of eye candy, we reckon.
