Roadrunner, Honey! – Chrysler Plymouth American Classic

Cars

Anyone over the age of 30 can appreciate the appeal of a burly muscle car – and most will remember the antics of Roadrunner and a mangy looking feral canine.

The very conception of the 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner’s very existence was intertwined with the hugely successful Warner Bros cartoon that pitted frustrated Wile E Coyote against infuriatingly quick stepping Roadrunner (accelerati, rapidus maximus) in the wracked, rocky landscape of the American West.

The Chrysler Corporation got their crack ad team to exploit the connection to the max; and created some of the most interesting visual culture in the game.

Rumour has it they even tried to make the horn sound like the cartoon character’s nasal beep.

Whether or not that’s the case, these are some cool ads. Enjoy.

was always a less luxurious option than some other mopar muscle on the same platform…..and all the better for it…the duster was another offering at the budget end and one of my personal favourites.
