Jason Plato clocked up win number 95 in his 500th BTCC race at Knockhill on Sunday – and vowed there is plenty more in the tank.

The two-time champion led from the front having taken pole position in his Adrian Flux-sponsored Team BMR Subaru Levorg at the Scottish track, holding off a late surge from the BMW of Jack Goff.

Two further podium finishes in races two and three rounded off Plato’s most successful weekend of the season after the disappointment of Snetterton.

“To be honest, it’s the race wins, podiums and titles that matter more to me than the number of races, but it’s nice to win the landmark race,” said Plato.

“The good thing is that every time I go out there I’m very competitive, and it’s great to still be winning races after 500 events.

“But that’s what I’m focusing on – winning more races, adding to more than 200 podiums and being as fast as I can be.

“No doubt when I stop the longevity of the career will mean something, but retirement is not even part of the vocabulary at the moment.”

The winning-most driver in the history of the BTCC, Plato is up to seventh in the championship standings in the all-new Subaru.

“The car’s going really well, as we knew it would once we’d got the set up right after those first few rounds of testing,” he said.

“We’re a very tough car to pass through the bends, but we do still need a bit more straight line power.”

The next event is at Rockingham on August 27 and 28.
