This white hot Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 looks set to smash auction records when it goes under starter’s orders at auction next month.

The pristine 1988 Cosworth RS500 – one of only 500 cars manufactured, which provides the name – is among the distinguished offerings at the Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale on November 11.

It is valued at £100,000 to £115,000 – that will make it the most expensive Sierra ever sold – but if buyers are in the mood, who knows where the bidding will stop?

Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is an 80’s icon

This particular car is very special indeed. It features all the additions that made the Sierra Cosworth RS500 an ’80s icon – the enormous rear end spoiler, cavernous cooling ducts and the G-force generating 224bhp 2.0-litre engine.

Discovered by collector Joe Macari while visiting a Ferrari collection in Germany in 2007, he returned with the car and registered it to himself before finally selling, for what was then the very significant sum of £28,000, to a private Ford collector.

Cosworth RS500: one of only 56 finished in brilliant white

As one of just 56 cars ever liveried in brilliant white, and with the very low mileage of just 5,300 when Joe sold it, the car was unique.

Since then it has been a part of a private collection covering very little mileage.

In September 2014 it was sent to Ford specialists, Tremona Garage in Southampton, for a £4,000 service which included all fluids, belts and a new battery.

The mileage today is just a little over 6,000 – a little more than 200 miles a year – and the car remains absolutely and totally original throughout.

Recently it has been a part of a significant private collection and professionally stored in an indoor bespoke heated and dehumidified facility.

Most original Cosworth RS500 in the world

RS500 Registrar, Paul Linfoot, described the sale model as one of “the most original and best available RS 500s” in the world today.

The car will be sold with a comprehensive history file and a fresh MOT.

A Silverstone Auctions spokesman said:  “It’s not the cheapest out there – but the best never is.”

Cosworth owners are often penalised by insurers because of the supposed higher risk associated with high powered cars – that’s not true at Adrian Flux.
