Fiat 131 Racing

Cars

We’ve mentioned our penchant for the three-box format many a time.

But no car has stuck to its purity than Fiat’s 131 series.

In 1978, a 2-door sporting version known as Racing, or Mirafiori Sport in the UK, was launched.  It came with a 115 PS twin-cam engine, different headlights and grille, a few choice spoilers and extended wheel arches. The drivetrain was augmented by a short-throw 5-speed gearbox.

My mate’s older brother had one – and this meant that we got a ride every now and then.

Something about this car resonates more strongly than any other car from the era.

It’s Thursday, we’re in love.

  1. My cousin had one of these in the 80s. Absolute rot box, it would rust merely by breathing on it.
