Two BTCC champions – who wins our skills test?

VIDEO: We set Ashley Sutton and Jason Plato three driving challenges – who came out top?

Ashley Sutton is the reigning BTCC champion.

Jason Plato is a two times BTCC champion and currently holds the record for an amazing 96 BTCC career wins.

So both Adrian Flux drivers clearly know what it takes to perform on the racetrack, up against the country’s best touring car drivers.

But what happens when their sponsor sets three ridiculous challenges, in three ridiculous cars, for a YouTube video?

What were the challenges?

We invited both Plato and Sutton to the Adrian Flux Arena in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, on what ended up being one of the hottest days of the year.

Both BMR Racing drivers knew about the challenges in advance, but neither knew about the cars involved.

This is what we warned them.

  1. Challenge One: A lap in reverse
  2. Challenge Two: Handbrake turn parking
  3. Challenge Three: Drifting

So if this film really meant that much to them, there was plenty of time to brush up reversing skills, master handbrake turn parking and take a spin in a drift car.

Sutton may be ahead of Plato in the championship table – but who will come out on top and gain bragging rights ahead of next week’s BTCC action at Silverstone?

Watch the video to find out who regrets suggesting only rear view mirrors should be used for the reversing challenge, the driver with the best handbrake turn skills, and whether Sutton’s first time drifting is a success.
