It will be given a Cat N listing, which until October 2017 was known as a Cat D listing, if it is uneconomical to repair because it has it suffered non-structural damage and the vehicle’s structural frame or chassis has suffered no damage.

But a Cat N write-off can be repaired and can be perfectly safe to drive.

Insurer companies often dispose of Cat N write-offs as scrap. Many people opt to buy them and renovate them or to have their own Cat N write-off repaired, reinsured and put back on the road.

There are many reasons for this. If you already own the car, it may have great sentimental value, be a rarity, or you may think the Cat N would be cheaper to repair than buying a new car – because of that, many people are looking for cheap Cat N motor insurance.
