Public Liability Car Insurance From £19.99
Protect yourself from liability costs with our public liability car or van insurance. Ideal in the event you or your vehicle damages someone else’s property or causes accidental bodily injury. We work with the Salvation Army’s insurance branch, SAGIC, to supply this product.
What is public liability car insurance?
Public liability is a type of insurance that covers legal costs should a member of the public claim that they have been injured or their property has been damaged as a result of you or your stationary vehicle.
Is it covered under regular insurance?
In general, no. Your car insurance covers you in the event you get into an accident while driving the vehicle, so some insurance companies could refuse to cover you in the event you need to make a public liability claim.
Do I need public liability car insurance?
Whilst not everyone needs public liability cover, there are a number of different reasons you might need to consider getting insurance. This includes:
- Displaying your car in a car show or exhibit: give us a call if you regularly attend and exhibit in car shows and you require legal cover.
- Working as a driving instructor: we offer driving instructor insurance for ADIs and PDIs. Public liability cover can be added to your insurance with little extra fuss.
- Working as a courier: you can easily add public liability cover to your self-employed courier van insurance.
As a general rule, if you use your vehicle for work or shows, this can put you at risk. A claim against you could be as simple as a scenario in which you leave your car door open – whether this is to make a delivery or as part of a car exhibit – and a member of the public walks into it.
Public liability insurance covers the cost of legal action and compensation claims raised by a third party against you. This could include:
- Medical bills: in the event you or your stationary car accidentally harms someone
- Repair costs: should you damage someone’s property, whether this be private or commercial property
- Legal expenses: this can include the costs involved with legal proceedings in the event that someone makes a claim against you
We offer two tiers of public liability cover:
- Protection of up to £2 million in liability fees
- Protection of up to £5 million in liability fees
As mentioned above, we offer public liability cover at two different levels. Cover is available at £19.99 for up to £2 million in legal fees and compensation, and £27.50 for up to £5 million in legal fees and compensation.
Public liability insurance for couriers offers up to £2 million’s worth of cover for £99.
Not always; some will request that you take out your own liability insurance for car meets, while others will cover participants and organisers as standard.
We also offer liability cover as part of our car club insurance for shows, so just give us a call if you require this.
No, not if you were driving your car. However, we do offer legal cover as standard should you need to make a claim for an accident that wasn’t your fault.
