Home legal protection cover, or family legal protection, provides peace of mind against the threat of being sued and, in the event that you have to pursue a civil claim, it will provide cover for your legal expenses, up to a certain amount.
Home legal protection provides up to £50,000 indemnity for you and the people that matter to you: the family you live with, your spouse or partner, your parents or parents-in-law, and your children under the age of 21.
There is no limit on the number of claims you can make and there is no excess, (except for £250 on “Your Home” section of cover).
There are four main areas of cover: Personal Injury, Your Home, Services & Personal Property and Employment.
As the name suggests, Personal Injury provides cover for personal injury or death caused to you or a member of your family living with you.
It does not cover illness or injury which happens gradually or is not caused by specific or sudden accident.
Your Home (real property) covers you for infringement of legal rights arising from owning and occupying your home; costs arising from disputes when buying and/or selling a property; for nuisance/trespass to your home; and neighbour disputes.
The policy does not cover claims not reported within 90 days of the insurance unless it’s a renewal or the policyholder has had previous legal expenses; the excess of £250; the planning, construction or structural alteration of any buildings; subsidence, ground heave, landslip, mining or quarrying; any building or land other than your principal home.
Service & Personal Property covers you for damage to personal property, purchase, hire, leasing or sale of personal or private goods; consumer contracts; and issues regarding workmanship or building work.
It does not cover claims reported within the first 60 days of the insurance unless it’s a renewal or the policyholder has had previous legal expenses; a motor vehicle owned or used by, or hired or leased to you.
Employment covers you for contract disputes, unfair dismissal, redundancy, discrimination and unpaid wages.
It does not cover claims reported within the first 90 days of the insurance unless it’s a renewal or the policyholder has had previous legal expenses.
The Adrian Flux Home Legal Protection insurance is versatile but it does not cover: clinical negligence, wills, probate or inheritance, divorce, any business or trade which is of a financial gain and road traffic accidents.
Claims can arise anywhere within the territorial limits of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
There is a 24/7 advice line available 365 days a year and all claims must be reported within a reasonable period. In most cases Adrian Flux can recommend a representative who specialises in your particular claim.
The main exclusions of the policy are:
- Any claim not reported within a reasonable time of the event
- Legal costs incurred before our written acceptance of a claim
- Claims for less than £100
- Claims which don’t have a reasonable prospect of success (51% or greater)
- The £250 excess of each claim under the “Your Home” section, which must be paid before we can act
- Travelling expenses and loss of earnings
- Fines, penalties or damages which you are ordered to pay by a court
- Cancellations after the first 14 days will not receive a refund
