What is the Citroen 2CV?
First launched in 1948, production for the 2CV ran until 1990, with over 3.8 million (or 8.7 million if you include all variants) produced. The car was originally designed to modernise farmers in 1930s France who were still using the horse and cart because they couldn’t afford motorised alternatives. As a result, the car was created as an affordable little vehicle that ran on very little fuel.
Citroen created the Citroen 2CV to carry up to four passengers and 50kg of potentially fragile farm goods to market – all while travelling over unpaved roads! This resulted in a sturdy car that was surprisingly good at navigating rural lanes.
